Piedras Negras
Where We Serve
Piedras Negras, Mexico is in the state of Coahuila, one of the 32 states in Mexico. It is located directly across the border from Eagle Pass, Texas which is about 150 miles southwest from San Antonio. Piedras Negras is called “La Puerta de Mexico” (Mexico’s Door) because of the flow of commercial traffic and people that passes through it’s borders. Life on the border brings people from all over Mexico in search of employment opportunities. In the face of great poverty the people of Mexico are a creative, friendly, artistic, religious and family–oriented culture. They take pride in their ability to create a means of living for their families. Earning the minimum wage of $5.50 A DAY, they work long exhausting hours selling goods and food on the streets, work in factories, construction or still others will try to cross illegally into the united States. All are in search of a new and better life. Of Piedras Negras’ 265,000 population, approximately 80% of them live in extreme or relative poverty. They are in general are a very religious, traditionally non-practicing Catholic people. Most do not read God’s word nor speak personally with Jesus. The harvest is ripe and the people are hungry to live life on the vine… They are hungry for Jesus ! We feel it has been a privilege serving Jesus in Mexico, seeing Him at work, using each of our talents and past experiences for His glory, seeing the lost saved and discipling believers
