Reading Room! Spring 2010
A gift from our friends at University Baptist Church in Houston, TX enabled us to pour the foundation of the Reading Room. Three carpenters from Washington, NC arrived in March to frame up the entire Reading Room. We trust that God is at work. He is using the talents and means of many willing hearts throughout His body to accomplish His work here in Piedras. Surveying on the property is done and machinery grading the construction areas are currently underway. Would you please prayerfully consider how God would use you to meet our financial goal for the Reading Room project?
KICK OFF! 3rd season of the Victoria Soccer Outreach Ministry is underway with 16 teams, over 20 churches & 200 young men being reached for Christ. One church in particular has started a 'soccer ministry team' in their church which now meets weekly with the team & staff outside of gameday in efforts to work with the churched youth teaching them to disciple their peers. God is bearing His fruit through the opportunity to play on these church teams.
Local interest in developing a children's soccer program is high. Many parents ask us when we will begin to enroll children. In prayer & as the Lord leads our hope is during 2010 to open soccer clinics as a means to reach the children and their parents for Christ. A doctor in Dallas was retiring and wanted to donate his entire practice! He called our friends at the Lazarus Organization in Houston and they knew just where to bring it. They drove over in their 24 ft U Hual loaded it and came on down to Piedras. The local Mayors office here was ready to receive them as he was given a Ultra Sound Machine and Equipment for one of the local clinics which serves families in great need. VBM will distribute the other equipment to several rural clinics established by local churches. Once again God has used the Lazarus Organization to fill both a physical and spiritual need here in Piedras Negras. It truly was a joy (especially for little Elliott) to have received John and George from Lazarus here south of the border for the day. ¡Dios les bendiga grandemente!
In 2004, while directing an Open Meal program in a rural neighborhood God forged in our hearts a love for READING to the children and the power of them reading the written Word! Watching these youth and children play in thier busy and crowded streets, God gave us the vision for a recreational center & soccer league outreach.
Isaiah 55:11 "So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it."
